It's that time of the year again. New Year's resolutions are everywhere. And the pressure to set big, bold goals is an all time high, right? but if the past few years have taught us anything, it's that hustle. is not sustainable without heart. So let's toss the guilt ridden to do list and the all for nothing mindset out the door and create goals that work for your life, not someone else's. Okay, here we go. Are you ready? Let's start with a little honesty. How many New Year's resolutions have you actually stuck with past February? Be honest. If your answer is not many, you're not alone. I am totally in that boat with you. The problem with typical resolutions is that they are way too rigid or too ambiguous or too focused on the wrong type of things. Lose 20 pounds. Double your revenue. Get the house spotless every day. Sounds familiar? Big dreams. Big goals. Zero execution. But here's the thing. Life is unpredictable. Especially if you're a parent and a business owner. I don't even know what I'm going to do in the next 20 minutes. If your goals don't leave room for the chaos in your life, well, let's admit it. They are doomed to fail. And you'll just end up feeling worse, not better. This year, we're doing things differently because you are here and we are going over this now. We're going to set goals that are intentional, flexible, and rooted in what really matters to you, my friend. This is going to be one of those episodes where you're going to need a pen and paper or your notes app. So if you are doing something else, come back to me. You can listen to this, but I want you to come back to this. All right. Here we go. Step one. Let's reflect on the past year. Before you look forward, let's take a moment to look back. What worked for you this past year? What didn't? In your journal or your notes or your paper, I want you to write down three wins that you had this past year. What happened in 2024 you classify as a win that you're proud of. Okay, good. Now, jot down one thing that completely just drained your energy. Okay, and now what's one thing that filled your cup? This reflection is going to help you figure out what's worth carrying into 2025 and what things you can leave behind. Step two. I want you to define your priorities. Ask yourself, ready? What's most important to me in this season of life? For me? Being present with my kids. They are two very young children right now, and I don't want to miss a moment I know that I will miss moments, but I am okay with that as long as my Goal my big picture goal is to spend as much time as I am able to with them for you It might be being present with your kids like me. It may be growing your business. It also might be It's okay to prioritize your mental health if that is what is most important to you. Our priorities are always going to look different. What's on my list shouldn't be on yours. What's on my list doesn't necessarily have to be on your list too, and that's okay. Step three, set goals. that will align with your priorities. Okay. So in step two, we wrote all your priorities down. Now, step three, we are going to reflect on them. Here's the thing. I want you to be specific about it, but I also want you to be flexible. Instead of saying, grow my business, how about write, I don't know, add 100 subscribers to my email list by June. It gives you a set deadline, it gives you exactly how many people you need to get onto your email list, and it's flexible. You have six months. Instead of saying, spend more time with my family, Try schedule one uninterrupted family day each month, an outing, maybe it's the zoo, maybe it's the park. I want you to remember basically that your goals don't have to look impressive on paper. They just have to be meaningful to you. All right, step four, big goals can feel super overwhelming. So I want you to break them into smaller, more actionable steps. If you've been listening to our podcast, you know that. We like actionable steps. If your goal is to launch a new product, your baby steps might look like 1. Brainstorm ideas. 2. Research the cost. 3. Set a launch date. Breaking it down makes it less intimidating and feels way more doable. Step 5. Leave room for grace. Life happens. Kids get sick. When I'm recording this right now, I have two littles and they are both sick. And we just had a tornado touchdown near our location two days ago. So, life happens. Work gets busy. Kids get messy. You will miss deadlines. And you might fall off track. But you know what? That's okay. The goal isn't perfection. It's progress. You'll hear me say this a lot. The goal is not perfection. It's progress. Okay, let's talk about the elephant in the room. Ready? Time. We know our time is limited. We're running a business. We're raising kids. And outside of that, we're trying to have a life. Trying being the key word. So how do you set goals that fit your reality? Well, you should focus on one thing at a time. You don't have to tackle everything in January. I want you to pick one goal for each quarter, that's three months, or even each season, however you want to define that. Two, I want you to involve your family. If one of your goals is family focused, then make it a team effort. If you want to start family game nights, well, let your kids pick the games. Have your kids set up, have your partner set up. It's a team effort. Okay. Three, I want you to embrace that, you know, things are just not gonna be perfect. Some weeks, your goal might have to take a backseat to survival mode and that's okay. The beauty of setting intentional goals is that they are flexible when you need them to and they can bend without breaking. Before I wrap up, I want to make sure that this process is as easy as possible for you. I've created a little freebie. You can find the link down in the show notes, but it's a goal setting template, simple design. You can print it out and you can use them to map out your goals in a way that feels approachable and achievable. Remember, As we head into this new year, success doesn't have to look like a 24 7 hustle. It doesn't have to look like someone else's Instagram reel. you say it is. It's progress, not perfection. It's staying aligned with the priorities, while giving yourself grace for all the messy moments in life. So take a deep breath. sip your coffee, and set goals that honor the life that you're building, not the one that you think you should have. Thanks for hanging out with me today, and I just want to say, Happy New Year, everyone. I'll see you in 2025.
