Are you wearing exhaustion like a badge of honor? In a world that glorifies the hustle, it's easy to believe that burning the candle at both ends is the only way you're going to succeed. But what if burnout isn't proof of your dedication, but it's a sign to redefine the way you work and live? Hey friends, welcome back to caffeinated chaos. Today we are going to be tackling something I think many of us have faced, but don't really talk about. Burnouts. You know what I'm talking about. That feeling where you're completely drained, but instead of resting, you tell yourself to Push through, because that's what successful people do. Well, spoiler alert, it's not. Burnout has somehow become this weird badge of honor, especially in the entrepreneur world. We wear exhaustion like it's proof of our dedication, but let me tell you something. If your hustle leaves you too burned out to enjoy your life, It's not working. So today we're gonna talk about why burnout isn't the price of success, how to recognize it before you hit the wall, and let go of that toxic hustle mentality for good. Okay, let's start with the basics. Burnout isn't just being tired after a long day. It's a state of complete physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion that happens when you are overworking for way too long without taking care of yourself. And it's so sneaky. It doesn't hit you all at once. It builds and builds and builds over time. At first you think, yeah, I'll just push through it. I'll work a little harder. But before you know it, You're snapping at your kids. You're missing deadlines. You're crying over something as simple as an empty jar of Nutella. Is that just me? Anyway, for me, burnout looks like this and I have gone through that. I'm physically present with my family, but mentally I'm running through all the things I should be doing for my business. Now, when I went through burnout, it was burnout of my career I still very much love my business and it does not feel like burnout for my business, but in the corporate world, definitely felt like that. I'll sit down at my desk, ready to tackle my to do list and realize that I don't even know where to start. There's just so much and I'm so overwhelmed. See, the wild thing is, instead of recognizing that I needed rest. I needed to let my body recuperate. My first thought was, you're not working hard enough. Why aren't you working? Type something. Go, Whitney, go! I should have told myself I needed rest. And here's the thing, we live in a culture that glorifies the grind. We see quotes like, sleep is for the weak. You have the same 24 hours as Beyonce. And my personal least favorite, I'll rest when I'm dead. I feel like that one's been around for generations. The hustle mentality convinces us that if we're not constantly working, then we're failing. How fair is that? It tells us that resting is being lazy. That slowing down means that you're just not serious about your goals. And as parents, we get hit with that double whammy, as we always do, because we're already juggling so much. Here's the truth behind it. Burning yourself out isn't a key to success, honestly, it's the super fast track to failure. Okay, so you might be like, thinking to yourself, No, I'm fine, Whitney, I've got it. Everything is under control. Alright, here you go. Here are some warning signs that you should be on the lookout for. 1. Exhaustion. Kind of easy to recognize. Not that, I just need a cup of coffee tired. But that deep, bone fatigue, no amount of sleep seems to fix that type of exhaustion. Are you irritable? Are you snapping at your kids or your partner more than usual? I mean, burnout tends to create a very short fuse in people. Are you finding a lack of motivation? Was something that you had as a passion now seem more like a chore? Are you overwhelmed? Does your to do list look more like an essay or a never ending long scroll of things you have to do? And you have no idea where to start. And are you experiencing physical symptoms? This one I feel like a lot of people tend to ignore or chalk it up to other things. But headaches, stomach issues, I mean, even getting sick can be signs of burnout. Burnout. Did you know that? If any of these sound familiar, it's time to take a step back. Alright. You're like, oh my god, Whitney. Yes, that is me. Alright. Don't freak out. So how are we going to stop? Because we need to stop glorifying the burnout and start prioritizing rest and sustainability. Okay, as always, I always say I love to give you actionable steps. So here it comes. Break out the pen and paper, and if you don't have them right now, come back and listen to this. One, you are going to redefine success. I want you to grab a piece of paper or open notes, like I said, if you don't have that right now, come back to me. What does success look like for you in this season of life? Write down a definition that fits your reality. Make sure it's something that is plausible and not what society or culture says. Let's face it, Instagram expects it to be. Think about what makes you fulfilled as both a parent, a business owner, and as a person, as yourself. Is it spending more time with those you love? Is it growing your business steadily? Although in baby steps, which is perfectly fine. Let's define this. On your piece of paper right now, and I want you to use this definition as a guide as you go forward with everything that you do. Alright, two, I want you to schedule, and this might sound silly, I want you to schedule your resting periods Alright, so pull out your calendar, whether it's digital or on paper, and do time blocking. Alright, Block off a chunk of time this week to do something that recharges you. Do you love reading books? Do you love going for a walk? Hey, I am all for that guilt free nap. Schedule it. Make it as a non negotiable. You know, it is as equal to your success as a client meeting or going to a school event. And don't forget to hit that reminder button in your phone so you don't forget. All right, three. I want you to set boundaries and please stick to them. Take a moment to think about where you've been overextending yourself. Here's a question you can ask for yourself. What's one boundary I can set this week, to protect my energy? Maybe it's turning off work notifications after 6 p. m., which I highly, highly suggest you doing. Or saying no to an extra commitment that is just stressing you out. It's okay to say no. Write it down and commit to it for this week. Repeat the step week by week. Once you get the hang of it, then you can repeat it for the month. All right, four. Delegate and ask for help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help. So I want you to think about one thing in your plate that somebody else could easily take off and do for you. Is it something in your business? Maybe like, you know, automating your social media post or is it something at home that maybe your partner is willing to take over? My husband, he takes care of bath times, which is great. I love him for that. Write down who you'll ask for help and take action as soon as this episode ends. It's time, and it's okay, to pass the task off. Alright, the fifth and final step I have for you. Focus on progress, not perfection. Think about a task or goal that's been stressing you out. What's the simplest version? of this that you can do and still move forward. I'll start. For the longest time, I wanted to start a podcast. And here we are. I'm finally in your earbuds. I'm finally out there. And it's not perfect. It's gonna be a work in progress. But I took a step, alright? Write down the first small step you can take today to achieving that goal. And like I said, done is better than perfect. It doesn't have to be perfect. It can be a process. Cross it off when it's completely done and celebrate your win. You did it. So here's the truth. Rest isn't a luxury. It's a necessity. You hear it all the time, you can't pour from an empty cup and you can't show up as your best self for your family or your business if you are running on fumes. So, please, let's stop treating burnout like it's a badge of honor. Let's stop glorifying exhaustion and start normalizing rest. I know all of us probably listening would love, love, love, love to take a midday nap right now. So here's the thing. When you take care of yourself, you're not just doing it for you, but you're doing it for all the people who depend on you. Alright friends, I hope that this episode resonated with you. If this conversation did, I hope that you take a moment this week to slow down, rest, and remind yourself that you don't have to hustle your way to burnout. Enjoy. Take a moment. If you enjoyed this episode, please share it with a fellow bestie and remind them that rest is part of the process and don't forget to subscribe, and don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on next week's chaos. Until then, remember, you are doing better than you think. Cheers!
