16. Mental Health Matters: How to Protect Your Peace
Welcome back to Caffeinated Chaos! This week, we’re diving into a topic close to my heart: mental health as a parent and entrepreneur. Life as a parentpreneur is a beautiful, chaotic mess—but let’s be real, it can take a toll on your peace of mind. Today, we’re getting honest about how to hold it all together and why taking care of yourself is essential for your success in business and at home.
The Reality of Parentpreneur Life
- Balancing a business, kids, and the endless to-do list.
- Why trying to be “everything to everyone” doesn’t work (and what to do instead).
My Journey with Mental Health
- From falling in love with psychology to 8+ years in behavioral management.
- How I recognized burnout and made a change for my well-being.
5 Practical Tips to Protect Your Peace:
- Set Boundaries Like a Pro: Define your work hours and stick to them. When the workday ends, log off, put your phone down, and give yourself permission to be off.
- Practice Mindful Moments: Take short breaks to breathe, stretch, or listen to your favorite song. These small moments of calm make a big difference.
- Outsource or Delegate: You don’t have to do it all. Whether it’s hiring help for your business or asking for support at home, let go of what doesn’t need your direct attention.
- Create a No-Guilt Self-Care Routine: Self-care isn’t selfish! Find simple ways to recharge—whether it’s a quiet walk, a favorite hobby, or a few uninterrupted minutes to yourself.
- Talk About It: Don’t bottle up your feelings. Share with friends, fellow parentpreneurs, or even a therapist. Connection and communication are key to processing stress.
You are enough. You don’t need to be perfect or do it all. Prioritizing your mental health isn’t selfish—it’s necessary to thrive.

Welcome back to caffeinated chaos Okay so friends we are going to Get into it a little bit today We are gonna be talking about how how we're holding it all together All right so it's gonna be a little real I want you to have some honest conversations with yourself through this episode So this one is close to my heart because it's something that you know is starting now to be talked about but it wasn't always the case Especially when I was younger growing up and you know I'm a millennial and It's mental health and I just remember being in high school and taking my first psychology class and instantly falling in love with it and being like this is what I want to do And so I recently just retired from working with clients hands on who were adults with developmental disabilities And so I did that for such a long time I did behavioral management for eight nine years and then I was doing life skills building at a different company And so I did that for you know a very long time And it gets to a point where you just get burnt out and I could feel myself getting burnt out I could understand in myself that I had basically done my time in that field and if I was to continue staying in it that it just wouldn't serve me and my mental health Um so it's really important to um I didn't recognize that and I did at the time today we're going to kind of take that concept and talk about your mental health as a parent and entrepreneur because it is so important to your success as a business owner and to being present as a parent Here's the thing there are days when I feel like I've gotten things figured out You know the toddler is playing quietly the baby is napping and I'm actually getting things on my to do list done But then there are those other days you know the ones where I'm running on zero sleep deadlines are piling up and my kids are crying for one more Pokemon fruit snack I feel Like I'm on edge and that's what I remember that you've got to take care of yourself too Right So when I started out as a parent and an entrepreneur It was basically at the same time My daughter was a almost won and I had just fallen in to starting our own business I had this idea that I wanted to be everything I wanted to be a great mom I wanted to be a great boss a good wife a good friend without any breaks and spoiler alert it did not work So if you're out there feeling like that's you trust me like It doesn't work and that's okay My mental health took a hit and I found myself overwhelmed exhausted and not really showing up as my best self And that's what I want to talk about today How do we as parentpreneurs protect our peace while doing all the things So I've got five practical tips that have helped me to prioritize my mental health and I know that they can help you too So let's break the cycle of burnout and save space for self care because you deserve it alright So one I want you to set boundaries like a pro right I I've said this a bunch of times on different episodes but So setting boundaries is going to drastically help with keeping your mental health and your peace of mind intact okay let's be honest it's easy to blur the lines between work and home life but setting clear boundaries is the key to protecting your peace okay Define your work hours and stick to them When the work day is done put your phone down close your laptop log out give yourself permission to truly be off okay Your mental health will thank you This is one of the biggest things that people struggle with but it's also one of the biggest things that could lead to you having peace of mind Two I want you to practice mindful moments You don't need to meditate that's not what I'm talking about but you can take a few moments It's to just be mindful of your surroundings of what you are going through what your body is experiencing what your brain is thinking Just bringing mindfulness and consciousness to things around you Okay So I want you to take five minutes throughout your day It's doesn't even take that much time A couple minutes throughout the day to center yourself Okay Whether that's deep breathing a quick stretch Maybe you're just going to plug in your headphones and listen to your favorite song Small moments where you can find calm and to center yourself will make a huge difference on how you react to things around you Three I want you to outsource or delegate okay It's okay to admit that you cannot do it all if your plate is full I want you to look for areas that you can outsource or delegate those tasks or those things off your to-do list to another person This can be in business or even in your home give yourself the space to focus on what only you can do and let go of the rest does it have to be you who does the laundry Does it have to be you who schedules the social media post Or can you pass those tasks off to somebody else It is okay to let go of tasks You do not have to do all of it You do not have to keep all the plates spinning okay Four create a no guilt self care routine This is something that is so left behind because I mean let's be real How many times a week do you take a shower How many times do you get time to yourself to take care of you To reset you Self care doesn't have to be bubble baths and face masks even though those to be honest are really nice It's about doing whatever fills you up Even if it's only for a couple minutes maybe you're going to do a quiet walk around the block Maybe it's playing a game that you love reading your favorite book listening to your favorite music The key is to make time for yourself without feeling guilty And I think that's the key point that a lot of people you know get caught up on is if they go and do this thing if they're just like okay mommy needs a couple minutes to Take a shower in peace to listen to my Taylor Swift final I don't need to be feeling guilty about it and neither do you You deserve it as much as anyone else Okay Five Talk about it when you are feeling overwhelmed please do not bottle it up All my years in the field this tends to be the thing that breaks the most people right Especially when I was working in the behavioral management field and something would happen and people would be like I'm fine I'm fine It's fine And I'm just like okay take a couple minutes come back to my office and let's talk about what just happened Okay So If you are feeling overwhelmed please don't bottle it up Talk to a friend a fellow parent preneur or even a therapist if you are going to see one Getting those feelings out can help you process and release the weight that you've been building You don't have to carry it all and you don't have to carry it alone So obviously talking to A licensed therapist is a great thing A lot of people still see Sigma around going to therapy Okay but If you feel like you need to vent and get it out there you can submit your story to the sip and share we have here on caffeinated chaos By all means I am not a licensed therapist I worked in the field and I did not do one on one client therapies but if you would like to at least just get your story off your chest and you just want somebody to know you can totally submit a sip and share a moment with us and you can do so by clicking the link down in the show notes for that and tell us your story and if you're chosen we will read it out loud on the podcast and I will offer what I would do again not a licensed therapist but I can tell you what has worked in my experience in the past and if you have advice that you think would help other parent preneurs on this topic you can also submit that to our Sip and Share segment down below okay So friend I want you to know something You you are enough okay Please tell yourself that You are enough You do not have to be perfect You do not have to be everything to everyone all the time What you do need to do is you need to take care of yourself so that you can show up for the things that matter Prioritizing your mental health isn't selfish It's necessary Okay do you hear me Prioritizing your mental health is not selfish It's necessary for you to thrive in your business and as a parent Thank you for spending time with me today I hope that this episode resonated with you I really hope that you take these tips and and incorporate them within yourself so that you can help protect your peace Send it to another person who may be deep in the chaos right now who just needs a little reminder to take care of themselves too And remember you are not alone in this chaos Reach out to others Seek help if you need to Until next week stay grounded give yourself grace protect your peace do all of the good things for yourself and let go of anything that does not serve you and your mental health have a great weekend everyone I will see you in the next episode Bye now
