When you hear email marketing, do you immediately picture some sketchy, congratulations, you've won a million dollars spam email? Or maybe you're thinking, uh, who even reads emails anymore? I'm here to tell you that email lists are not only alive and well, but they're one of the sexiest things you can do for your business. Think about this, no algorithm changes, no fighting for visibility, just direct access to the people who actually want to hear from you. I mean, they literally signed up to hear from you. And today we're going to show you how you can grow your email list without being annoying, spammy, or begging people to subscribe for updates. Because let's be real, nobody wants spam. I used to think email lists were boring. I mean, granted, I did sign up for a couple email lists to get discounts at my favorite stores, and I was convinced that social media was the way to grow my business. But! I cut that out real fast, and I started an email list as soon as I got my business website up. And if you don't have a website yet, you can still have an email list. We'll talk about that in a little bit. So if you just keep posting consistently, people are not going to magically start buying. Spoiler alert. You don't own your audience on social media. In a second, it can be taken away. We all know what happened with TikTok. I mean, granted TikTok is back, but still things can be taken away. In a snap from us. So having an email list is like having all of your customers, people who actually want to hear from you, people who will actually buy from you in your contacts, basically. Okay, so let's get down to business. I want to share with you five steps on Helping you get your email list all set up. Okay, so one I am NOT sponsored by any of the I'm not sponsored by any of the programs or software I talked about today, but let me just throw out some that I am aware of so When it comes to email list I use the email that comes with my Shopify. However, there is things like kit It used to be convert kit. I think it's now just kit. There is MailChimp I had the company I work for they use MailChimp to send out emails. So there are some free options out there that You can use while you're still growing your list and then obviously as your list expands and gets more contacts That's when you start moving into the paid subscriptions But I want you to do your research again. There's no affiliate links. There's no sponsorships. Those are just ones I know of Okay, so let's talk about steps Step one is I want you to give people a reason to join Like I said, I joined so many store ones because I was getting a discount and that's how they get you. They're like, do you want to sign up for our email list and get 10 percent off or that? No one is signing just to get updates, okay? The audience needs a reason. Think about what your ideal customer actually wants. They got me, I wanted a discount code, a freebie, an exclusive. Sign me up. That's, that's how they got me. So, make it irresistible. Instead of saying, join my email list, I want you to say something along, Grab my free insert item here. Checklist, guide, template, discount code. One of the most effective ways that I've seen people get onto my email list is I offer a free coupon, the most popular one is the buy one get one free when it comes to your custom printing, whether that's with your business cards or your stickers. So, people sign up. During that time and then get that coupon and they're able to use that towards their purchase and I see a lot of people sign up and get onto my list People want value people want a good deal. So take that into consideration When trying to get people to join your list I'm not saying give massive discounts every single time you want someone to join your list But you do need to show them that they will get value from being on your list Step 2. Make signing up effortless. If someone has to click through multiple pages and links, just to get on your list, you've already lost them. That's way too many steps. I want you to keep it simple. Name and email. That's it. And make sure your sign up link is everywhere. Your bio, your website, your social posts, and even on your email signature. Okay? Because you want it in so many places. I can tell you for my day job when I was doing it with MailChimp, we generated a QR code so that it was easily scanned, went straight to the landing page, name, email, enter. That's basically it. It's we kept it very simple Accessible with smartphones. If not, there was a Simple link that you can also follow it was like this this this dot com, you know, super simple So make it effortless. Step three actually send emails But not like a robot. Remember, people signed up to hear from you. They don't want to sign up and hear from AI. Hitting send on that first email, I get it, does feel terrifying. But remember, your subscribers want to hear from you. They signed up to hear from you. So you don't have to be super formal and write like a corporate newsletter. Talk to them as if you're talking to a friend and share stories, give them behind the scenes updates and let them in on the things before the rest of the world. No, remember people connect with people, not businesses. So if it helps you when you're writing your emails, picture that one friend, That you have, not your bestie, right? Who knows all your inside jokes, cause you don't want to say stuff that your audience is not going to understand, but think of it as a friend. Think of it as a pen pal, and write to that person cause it's going to feel more personal. It's going to have more connection with your audience. Okay. Step four, I want you to sell without being salesy. I know. Think about when you've gotten an email that was like final sale, don't miss out. And then you immediately deleted it. Yeah. I know. Instead of bombarding people with buy now, buy now, buy now emails, focus on providing value first, share tips, stories behind the scenes, like I said before, and then naturally mention your offer. Right? Like, by the way, if you're struggling with XYZ, I have ABC that can help. Check it out here. It feels more natural to the conversation and not pushy. Not in your face. Okay? Step 5. Keep it consistent but not overwhelming. How often should you email? More than never and less than every five minutes. Aim, for once a week, that's a good start. Or once every other week. Just enough to stay top of mind without being annoying. And remember, consistency builds trust and you don't have to be perfect. You just need to show up. So here's the thing, email marketing isn't dead, and it definitely isn't boring. It's the one place where you have full control over your audience, your message, and your sales. Like I said, social media can disappear in a blink, but your email list Well, that's yours so if you've been sleeping on email marketing, consider this your wake up call. And hey, if this episode gave you a big aha moment, share it with a fellow business owner because who needs to hear it.
